About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Food Service Assistant at the Ontario Ministry of Education. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals, maintaining the cleanliness of the food services area, and ensuring the safe and efficient use of equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of food, including meal planning and food preparation.
  • Serve prepared meals to students and staff.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the food services area, including equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
  • Ensure that food services equipment and supplies are used and stored in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform other duties related to the operation of a large school cafeteria, including working on-call hours as required.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working in a large volume food services environment.
  • Experience operating commercial and institutional food preparation equipment.
  • Knowledge of food handling and preparation techniques and sanitation standards.
  • Knowledge of basic food preparation, including the ability to prepare simple meals, soups, salads, sandwiches, etc.
  • Knowledge of good hygiene and health and safety regulations.
  • Completed Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to work shifts and perform physical work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
