The Director of Corporate Development will play a pivotal role in driving growth through strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and divestitures. This position reports directly to the Vice President, Capital Markets and involves collaborating closely with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Planning: Head the development and execution of the company's corporate development plan in alignment with overall business objectives and the corporate strategy.
- Transaction Management: Lead Corporate Developments efforts on high-priority projects, including strategic and transformation transactions, business development opportunities, and capital allocation decisions.
- Due Diligence: Identify and evaluate potential M&A opportunities, partnerships, and joint ventures that support growth initiatives and enhance market position.
- Negotiation and Deal Structuring: Lead comprehensive due diligence processes, financial analysis, and valuation assessments for potential transactions, and manage the negotiations and collaborate with legal, finance, and operational teams to structure and execute transactions.
- Team Leadership: Effectively lead and develop a high-functioning team, providing guidance, training, mentoring, performance management, and facilitating employees' career development.
- Industry Monitoring: Monitor industry trends, competitive dynamics, and market conditions to identify opportunities and risks.
- Strategic Recommendations: Prepare and present strategic recommendations and business cases to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. Completion of a further finance designation (MBA, CBV, or CFA) is an asset.
- Experience: 15+ years' experience in corporate development or related areas such as corporate finance and investment banking, with proven ability to finalize transactions, coupled with strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
- Leadership Skills: Proven competence and capabilities in managing transitions, steering teams through organizational shifts, and motivating adaptation; established leadership skills with a history of guiding successful teams.
- Negotiation and Decision-Making Skills: Proficient negotiation and decision-making skills with a history of facilitating successful deals and partnerships.
- Communication Skills: Superior written and oral communication skills, able to present complex details in a comprehensible manner across different organizational levels.
- Entrepreneurial Aptitude: Entrepreneurial aptitude and agility are critical in this role, as our organization is evolving.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the energy industry, and familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in the space.
