Job Summary:

As a Yard Jockey for Perishables at BJ's Wholesale Club, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe upkeep of trailers, fuel island, and positioning trailers in the yard. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support Business Objectives: Coordinate the use of shared resources with other departments and locations to achieve company business plans, strategies, and objectives.
  • Provide Exceptional Customer Service: Build and maintain effective communication with carriers, vendors, internal and external customers to develop innovative solutions to meet customer needs and ensure product quality and services are never compromised.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform preventative, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance for trucks, trailers, and docks, including repairs on mud flaps, door roller/hinges, lights, minor wiring, minor interior, bulk head, sheet metal, reefers, etc.
  • Documentation and Communication: Document and file all minor maintenance performed for trucks, trailers, and dock, and promptly communicate larger repair and maintenance needs to maintenance and management.
  • Equipment Monitoring: Monitor and document fluid levels, temperatures, and seal integrity, and maintain cleanliness of evaporators and trailers.
  • Reporting and Record-Keeping: Monitor and report monthly engine hour readings, and maintain annual inspections and files.
  • Fuel Island Maintenance: Perform Fuel Island maintenance and upkeep daily and as needed.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED; college coursework, continuing technical education, or comparable business experience preferred.
  • Past Experience: Past experience as a yard jockey or truck driver preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) preferred; basic knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) Hours of Service; ability to remain calm and focused while prioritizing requests from multiple sources; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to read small print on packaging and paperwork, with or without corrective lenses; ability to read and write English with corrected or uncorrected vision; ability to speak and understand English; ability to accommodate flexible schedules to meet the needs of the customer (to include nights, weekends, and holidays) as required; ability to learn to use Transportation Management Systems (TMS); ability to maintain a valid driver's license; ability to travel - minimal.
