Position Overview
The Tire Repair Technician is responsible for executing comprehensive tire maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of vehicles, including light trucks, industrial machinery, and heavy-duty equipment. This role requires performing duties at designated maintenance facilities or at various operational sites as necessary. The position reports directly to the Fleet Mechanical Trades Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently remove and install tires, wheels, and rims on light to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct thorough inspections of tires and associated components to identify damage, diagnose issues, and recommend suitable repair methods or replacements.
- Collaborate with external service providers for commercial tire services, including recapping and specialized repairs.
- Perform routine repairs on punctured or leaking tires.
- Maintain and repair tools and equipment used in tire servicing and maintenance.
- Manage inventory levels by monitoring, ordering, and receiving necessary materials.
- Adhere to all safety regulations as outlined in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina's safety protocols.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as needed, which may include minor equipment repairs, parts delivery, and maintaining cleanliness in the work area.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Grade Twelve (12) along with training in tire repair and maintenance, coupled with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in an industrial or commercial setting.
- In-depth knowledge of tire repair techniques, tools, and safety practices.
- Familiarity with legal standards regarding tire wear and safety.
- Proven ability to operate equipment used in tire maintenance and repair.
- Strong reading and comprehension skills for technical manuals and specifications.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating sound judgment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Commitment to providing high-quality customer service.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners.
Working Conditions
- A valid Class 1A driver's license is required. Candidates must be willing to complete a mobile crane safety operation course during the probationary period.
- Flexibility to work shifts and in various mechanical functions beyond tire repair may be necessary.
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks in diverse weather conditions.
