Position Overview
Reporting to the Head of Mine Planning and working on a two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotation at the Ekati Mine site, the Superintendent – Mine Technical Services will be tasked with delivering geotechnical services that support the development and communication of risk-assessed short-term mining and production plans (both Underground and Open Pit). The aim is to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the Production Department and the mineral resource.
Key Responsibilities
· Assume the operational and technical duties of the Team Leader Geotechnical during their absence.
· Contribute to the performance management process as required by the Team Leader Geotechnical.
· Oversee the geotechnical characterization for Open Pit and Underground operations at Ekati.
· Ensure the consistent application of Material Risk Management Plans, Standards, Procedures, Work Instructions, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for Fall of Ground (Open Pit and Underground) Material Risks.
· Engage in the geotechnical characterization for both Open Pit and Underground operations at Ekati.
· Approve geotechnical designs and operational directives to support the open pit and underground operations.
· Lead hydrology investigations and provide dewatering designs and operational guidelines to manage water ingress and inrush risks to mining operations.
· Manage daily geotechnical oversight of operations through monitoring and regular inspections.
· Supervise Geotechnical contractors and consultants as needed in the absence of the Team Leader Geotechnical.
· Administer the Ekati Geology & Geotechnical capital and operating budgets during periods when the Team Leader Geotechnical is unavailable.
· Complete corporate reporting as necessary.
· Provide operational geosciences support to the Resource Planning and Development Department and the Projects Department as required.
· Monitor geotechnical expenditures against budget and ensure requisitions are processed as necessary.
Qualifications
· A tertiary qualification in Geological Engineering with a specialization in Rock Mechanics.
· Designation as a Professional Engineer in the Northwest Territories or the capability to obtain this designation.
· NWT WCB Supervisor One or Two certification or the ability to acquire this certification.
