About the Position
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced engineer and effective collaborator to influence the vision and execution of Uber's Mapping and GeoSearch technologies. The Maps platform underpins all of Uber's ride-hailing and delivery services worldwide, encompassing the 'where to?' search functionality, routing, estimated times of arrival, navigation, and the management of pickups and drop-offs. This role presents a chance to tackle complex technical challenges and make a significant impact across Uber's operations.
Senior Staff Engineers at Uber are dedicated and practical technologists who excel at designing scalable systems while producing efficient code. They serve as collaborative role models and approachable leaders with a clear vision within a larger team. They are also humble mentors, guiding a team of diligent engineers while executing on delivering uniquely engaging projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to a passionate, skilled, and diverse engineering team.
- Collaborate with the team and stakeholders to outline the overarching architecture for the Advanced Matching Platform.
- Understand the broader context and pinpoint inefficiencies and opportunities for significant enhancements across the Matching Platform and Uber as a whole.
- Facilitate alignment among teams regarding architecture and clarify responsibilities between platforms and product services.
- Elevate engineering best practices across your organization to produce top-tier code, along with effective documentation, testing, and monitoring.
Essential Qualifications
- Strong technical background with over 8 years of experience in developing highly scalable software solutions.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with experience in crafting detailed technical documentation.
- Proficiency in Java, Go, or C++ (additional languages are a plus).
- Committed to fostering team growth by inspiring and mentoring fellow engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration with Product Management, Data Science, and Business stakeholders.
- Background in developing software engineering solutions for predictive and optimization challenges.
- Contribute to the broader software community through open-source initiatives.
For roles based in Canada: The salary range for this position is CAD$218,000 to CAD$242,000 annually.
Eligible candidates will have the opportunity to participate in Uber's bonus program and may receive equity awards and other forms of compensation. Additional benefits are also available.
