The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) serves as the national representative for municipal governments, advocating for the interests of cities and communities at the federal level.

As a key member of the Impact and Verification team, the Sustainability Energy Analyst is responsible for:

  • Assessing the energy performance of proposed projects and verifying the ongoing performance of completed initiatives.
  • Enhancing the capacity of both the Green Municipal Fund (GMF) and the wider municipal sector in developing and validating energy models.
  • Ensuring that funded projects are designed to achieve optimal environmental outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a proactive learner, eager to expand their expertise in energy modelling and efficiency practices. You thrive in collaborative environments and are open to taking calculated risks to foster innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct energy modelling and analysis for funding proposals related to new and existing buildings.
  • Validate energy savings projections based on project specifications.
  • Utilize relevant software to perform detailed building energy modelling.
  • Review architectural, mechanical, and electrical design documents.
  • Evaluate energy models against established guidelines and standards.
  • Analyze various energy efficiency measures through iterative modelling.
  • Collaborate with the Direct Funding unit to propose innovative design solutions for enhancing building energy efficiency.
  • Lead project reporting and results assessments, refining processes as necessary.
  • Develop methodologies for validating and verifying energy models across diverse building types.
  • Implement automated tracking and reporting tools to improve project management.
  • Support best practices in energy modelling and efficiency calculations.
  • Design and deliver training programs for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to GMF staff.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, building sciences, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in building performance analysis or energy modelling.
  • Familiarity with energy audits, commissioning, and HVAC system design.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and energy performance metrics.
  • Certifications such as ASHRAE's Building Energy Modelling Professional (BEMP) or AEE's Building Energy Simulation Analyst (BESA) are advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate complex data effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.
