Your expertise will be crucial in constructing, refining, and sustaining the infrastructure necessary for streaming and enriching data from a wide array of internal and external sources. Collaboratively, we aim to advance our cloud-based data platform to deliver accurate information, derive valuable insights, and facilitate informed decision-making. Continuous testing and improvement will be part of your responsibilities. In areas where our data platform is already established, your analytical skills will help optimize internal processes, automate systems, and enhance overall efficiency. Additionally, we envision your involvement in exciting projects related to Bayesian analysis, machine learning, and other data-centric initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate our comprehensive data systems to ensure optimal performance and identify opportunities for large-scale enhancements.
  • Develop new data pipelines to integrate additional core business data into our data platform across various cloud environments.
  • Investigate data validation alerts raised by our pipelines, addressing root causes and either delegating solutions or implementing fixes personally.
  • Collaborate with developers to apply your database and query optimization skills, determining whether performance issues should be resolved at the database level or through code adjustments.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses in partnership with analysts, integrating one-off data sources as required.
  • Engage in discussions regarding mid-term plans with management, focusing on how data can support these initiatives.
  • Redesign existing data flows to accommodate significant increases in data volume.

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience in a data engineering capacity.
  • Proficient in SQL with substantial experience in ETL processes and streaming using workflow management tools, such as Apache NiFi.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and optimizing data pipelines.
  • Experience in aggregating data from various sources, including APIs.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Educational background in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy of your work even when handling unreliable data.
  • Additional experience with programming languages relevant to our projects (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Python, R, Haskell, TypeScript/JavaScript), PostgreSQL, AWS Aurora, Google BigQuery, and machine learning will be advantageous.
