About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Urban Design Specialist to join our team at The Regional Municipality of York. As a key member of our Sustainable Transportation and Urban Design team, you will be responsible for reviewing design drawings, tender documents, and specifications for streetscape projects and development proposals to ensure compliance with our policies, guidelines, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop terms of reference and provide comments during detailed design, environmental assessment, and construction meetings.
  • Prepare preliminary designs for streetscape projects and concepts for Public Information Centres (PICs) and billboards.
  • Design and prepare drawings and contract documents, including tenders, estimates, and specifications for streetscape projects.
  • Review and provide comments on streetscape designs, tenders, specifications, and documents prepared by consultants.
  • Prepare and evaluate preliminary design alternatives and recommend preferred options based on technical merit.
  • Prepare plans, sketches, posters, graphs, and maps for display purposes and presentations.
Requirements
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in landscape/urban design, streetscape design, or municipal road design and drafting.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and reliable vehicle for corporate business.
  • Knowledge and experience with landscaping products, materials, methods, and construction.
  • Familiarity with the construction process, interpreting and reviewing plans, elevations, and details for construction.
