Financial Accounting Role

FortisBC is seeking a skilled Financial Accounting Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting financial data to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of financial data, including revenue and sales margin, gas inventory, and customer accounts receivable aging.
  • Prepare and review financial reports for presentation to external auditors, BCUC, and internal stakeholders.
  • Examine and control general ledger balances and journal entries, performing analysis to ensure integrity of financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain reports and schedules for internal stakeholders, BCUC, external auditors, and others to facilitate analysis and decision making.
  • Research and analyze the impact of various accounting treatment options on FortisBC's financials.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports prior to external release.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new or modified systems, processes, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Completion of a degree from a recognized accredited institution.
  • Completion of a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Three (3) years' experience in accounting at a senior level with strong emphasis on financial analysis and in-depth understanding of accounting theory (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills – manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of ERP accounting systems (preferably SAP).
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer systems and related programs including Excel.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
