We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer II to join our team at the City of Vancouver. As a key member of our Facilities Management and Operational Excellence (FMOE) division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our city's buildings and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Structural Assessment and Inspection
- Conduct thorough assessments of building structures to identify potential issues and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintenance and Replacement Planning
- Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize maintenance and replacement activities for building envelope and structural system components.
- Develop and implement maintenance and replacement plans to ensure optimal asset condition and minimize costs.
- Project Management
- Manage smaller-scale system upgrade projects and initiatives to improve asset condition awareness.
- Develop and implement project plans, including defining specifications and guidelines, overseeing vendor and consultant work, and managing scope, schedule, and budget.
- Technical Advisory and Strategic Planning
- Provide technical guidance and support to stakeholders on building envelope and structural systems.
- Develop and implement strategies to advance the standardization of data collection, cross-team collaboration, document management, building systems design, and internally-led facility inspections/audits.
- Education and Experience
- Completion of a university degree in Engineering.
- Registration (or immediate eligibility for registration) as a Professional Engineer in the province of British Columbia (EGBC).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of current and relevant professional experience in asset management, project management, and structural engineering.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of building structural engineering principles, standards, and specifications.
- Ability to prepare technical design specifications, commissioning plans, safety and operations and maintenance documentation for complex facilities.
- Considerable knowledge of local Building Codes, WSBC, CSA, and other industry standards and requirements.
