Director of Operations Job Description

The Director of Operations is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of site operations. This role involves managing and guiding operations leaders to achieve organizational goals. Direct reports include Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, with Matrix reporting for Finance, Quality, Human Resources, Environmental Health and Safety. The Director of Operations is accountable for developing and adhering to the annual production budget, participating in new product development and planning, and attending organizational meetings. This position requires supervision of direct and indirect reports to establish a positive relationship with associates and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement Employee Safety systems to minimize injuries and promote a Zero mindset.
  2. Ensure Food Safety and Quality systems are in place to meet customer expectations.
  3. Collaborate with the supply chain team to identify capacity constraints and ensure timely delivery of products.
  4. Implement Performance Systems, Lean Manufacturing, and drive proactive communication throughout the organization.
  5. Lead by example on the floor, calibrating teams on performance and results.
  6. Deliver cost savings through projects that improve OEE, reduce product waste, and eliminate unnecessary costs.
  7. Create and drive annual business plans for People, Safety, Quality, Service, and Costs.
  8. Lead Plant teams, ensuring clear goals, objectives, and expectations on performance.
  9. Monitor daily operation schedules for accuracy and ensure daily operational goals are met.
  10. Provide strategic guidance through participation in cross-functional meetings and data analysis on sales trends and cost performance.
  11. Develop a 3-5 year strategic plan for the facility, ensuring supply and maintaining infrastructure needs while supporting organizational growth.
  12. Improve facility stewardship and asset maintenance.
  13. Participate in new product development and planning, researching cost and production feasibility.
  14. Lead the implementation of new products for the facility.
  15. Adhere to the approved operations annual budget and provide budget updates as requested.

Requirements:

Education/Certifications: Bachelor's degree required; preference for degrees in Engineering and Food Science.

Experience: Minimum of ten years experience in a production facility; with a minimum of three years as a Plant Manager. Prefer experience in the food industry.
