About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at Homewood Health, a leading provider of mental health and addiction services. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Nursing Care: Provide nursing care on units across Elective Psychiatry Services, ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.
  • Contribute to Patient Care Needs: Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophy, and diversified patient populations.
  • Administer Medications: Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments, ensuring accurate and timely administration.
  • Ensure Clinical Assessments: Ensure necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and at various other times, such as the Mental Status Exam.
  • Engage with Interdisciplinary Teams: Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate, promoting effective communication and collaboration.
  • Act as a Preceptor: Act as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as appropriate, supporting the development of nursing staff.
  • Participate in Clinical Discussions: Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences, ensuring that patient care is informed by best practices and evidence-based research.
  • Accept Changing Work Assignments: Accept changing work assignments across Elective Psychiatry Services as required and directed by supervisor and/or delegate.
Requirements
  • Current Registration: Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
  • Experience: Up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA), documentation standards (CNO), and privacy legislation (PHIPPA). Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients. Current knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behavior.
  • Education and Training: Previous training in boundaries, suicide awareness, and medication administration is an asset.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to work independently and with multi-disciplinary teams. Proficient computer skills, and experience working with a number of systems and software applications.
