Your Opportunity:

This position offers a unique chance to work as a Health Care Aide at Vegreville Care Centre, where you can complete your certification while gaining hands-on experience. The site consists of 5 cottages, with 12 residents in each, and HCAs are considered multiskilled. Throughout the program, you'll receive support, training, and mentorship from a professional team of nurses. The training program takes approximately 12 months to complete, and the costs of tuition and training are covered by AHS. To be accepted, you'll need to commit to working in this position for 24 months at the time of hire. Once employed, you may qualify for this training program. Job Summary:

As a Health Care Aide, you'll participate in the delivery of quality patient care by assisting with basic personal care and hygiene, lifting and transferring patients, patient nutrition, and feeding patients as necessary. You'll also change linens, gather equipment, restock supplies, and port patients and supplies as needed. Vegreville, a charming town with a population of 6,000, offers a complete range of services and a friendly atmosphere, making it an attractive place to live and work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal care and hygiene
  • Support patients with mobility, nutrition, and recreation needs
  • Observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum may also be considered. Proof of qualification and compliance with AHS Hand Hygiene policies is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification and proficiency in Patient and Family Centered Care principles, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication, time management, and prioritization skills are also essential.
