Position Overview

The Retail Operations Manager is responsible for guiding our Store Management Teams across both locations to ensure an exceptional experience for customers and team members alike. This role is pivotal in driving internal initiatives that promote revenue growth and profitability. Aligned with The Root Cellar's core values, the Operations Manager ensures financial success by enforcing consistent standards, operational procedures, strategic objectives, and a positive workplace culture.

This position requires exemplary leadership, accountability, sound judgment, and a dedication to the continuous improvement of The Root Cellar's outcomes. The Retail Operations Manager is expected to engage hands-on as necessary, embodying the philosophy that no task is too small.

Key Responsibilities
Retail Management
  • Oversee the financial performance of both locations, including budget management, profit & loss analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Achieve budgetary targets related to revenue, margin, labor, and net profit.
  • Analyze financial statements to assess performance against budget and forecast, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Assist in developing annual budgets by setting revenue growth and productivity targets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Finance, Procurement, People & Culture, and Marketing to implement operational plans.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures at the store level.
  • Participate in strategic planning and fiscal management.
  • Develop and implement new standards and operating procedures to maintain high-quality service delivery.
  • Monitor costs and expenditures to protect company assets.
  • Report on key performance indicators and results to senior management, providing analysis and solutions as needed.
Leadership and Culture
  • Promote a culture of accountability and service excellence.
  • Enhance the Team Member experience through culture-building initiatives and effective performance management.
  • Foster a recognition culture and collaborate with the People & Culture team to ensure leadership succession planning.
  • Exhibit superior communication skills in all interactions.
  • Guide store leadership teams towards optimal performance through coaching and mentorship.
  • Align scheduling with budgetary constraints while ensuring high standards of service.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with regulations.
  • Represent the organization positively to external stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular meetings with various teams to ensure alignment and communication.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years in a senior leadership role within a related field.
  • Five years of management experience in the grocery sector.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline.
  • Comprehensive understanding of operational functions including finance, customer service, and employee management.
  • Proven ability to optimize operational processes for efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulations and compliance.
  • Experience in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in budget development and business planning.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and business management software.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with performance metrics.
