Position Overview:

The Before and After School Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and facilitating engaging activities for school-aged children. This role typically involves 15-30 hours per week, with opportunities for additional responsibilities, including providing individualized support for children with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordinators are assigned to various educational institutions, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children during before and after school hours. This position is particularly suitable for individuals seeking flexible work arrangements, such as students or parents.

Requirements:

Applicants must be at least sixteen years old and legally eligible to work. Program Coordinators may have the option to bring their own children to work, subject to management approval. There are also opportunities for summer employment within our camps and early learning programs.

Training and Development:

Successful candidates will be contacted for an interview and must attend a mandatory training session prior to commencing work. This training will cover essential safety protocols, program policies, and organizational procedures.

BGC Saskatoon is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to providing quality programming for children and youth in the community. We believe in the transformative power of opportunity and strive to ensure that all children can access enriching programs in their neighborhoods.

Work Schedule:

Program Coordinators may work morning and/or afternoon shifts aligned with school schedules, with no shifts on professional development days or school holidays. Morning shifts typically commence around 7:15 am, while afternoon shifts run from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A minimum commitment of 15 hours per week is requested, unless applying for casual positions.

Compensation:

The hourly wage ranges from $14.00 to $15.00.

Daily Duties:

Each day presents unique challenges and opportunities within the Before and After School Program. Program Coordinators are expected to be punctual and possess reliable transportation to ensure timely program operations. Responsibilities include:
  • Planning engaging activities that foster skill development and align with healthy childhood growth principles.
  • Treating children and youth with respect, acceptance, and honesty.
  • Actively supervising groups of children, maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Utilizing positive guidance and effective behavior management techniques.
  • Interacting with participants in a caring and understanding manner.
  • Maintaining daily communication with parents and guardians.
  • Collaborating as part of a team with other coordinators and school staff.
  • Keeping accurate attendance records and documentation.

Support and Resources:

Program Coordinators receive support from a team of managers and supervisors who assist with scheduling, resource procurement, and program evaluations.

Qualifications:

  • Canadian Language Benchmark Level 6 or higher (preferred).
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (required within the first two months of employment).
  • Previous experience in childcare, education, or related fields is an asset.
  • Additional mandatory training will be provided upon hiring.
