The Role:
We are currently seeking Relief Child and Youth Care Counsellors to join our Therapeutic Campus-Based Care programs and group homes.
Ideal candidates will have availability for both weekdays and weekends, with shifts typically scheduled from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
As a Relief Child and Youth Care Counsellor, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment programs for our youth. Your role will encompass all aspects of program life, ensuring the daily care, treatment, health, nurturing, and supervision of the young individuals in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend to the physical safety, self-esteem, and developmental needs of our youth.
- Supervise, organize, and facilitate daily living and recreational activities, utilizing these as opportunities for educational and therapeutic engagement.
- Establish routines and activities that provide security and foster socially acceptable interactions among children and youth.
- Serve as a meaningful role model, providing direct instruction in grooming, hygiene, nutrition, and social etiquette.
- Identify and leverage goal-oriented teaching opportunities using systematic instructional plans and appropriate methodologies.
- Employ suitable behavioral interventions and strategies to support youth development.
- Communicate rules and behavioral expectations, consistently following through with appropriate interventions.
- Enhance the quality of life for our youth by improving their physical environment.
- Engage directly with youth in all facets of their lives, collaborating with parents and community organizations.
- Advocate for the rights and interests of the individuals we serve, acting on their behalf.
- Provide a channel for grievances and represent the interests of the youth.
- Exhibit professionalism in interactions with children, youth, parents, colleagues, and the public, adhering to confidentiality standards.
- Contribute to team dynamics through active participation, effective communication, and a positive attitude.
- Model values of integrity, fairness, and respect.
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree or diploma in Human Services or Social Sciences (or currently enrolled).
- Minimum age of 21 years (due to agency insurance requirements for driving).
- Experience in group home or congregate care settings is preferred.
- Strong ability to form and maintain caring, therapeutic relationships.
- Capacity to engage children, youth, and families in the treatment process.
- Demonstrated commitment, consistency, and personal maturity.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- A Police Information Check, including a vulnerable sector search, is required prior to employment.
- A Child Intervention Record Check is mandatory upon starting employment.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are preferred (minimum of 2 years driving experience with a class 5/GDL class 5 license).
- Completion of ASIST, First Aid, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, and certification with CYCAA are considered assets.
