The Industrial Maintenance Specialist III plays a crucial role in supporting the FedEx operations by ensuring the reliability and efficiency of material handling systems. This position involves executing preventative and predictive maintenance as well as performing repairs on various industrial systems. The technician will apply established methods related to mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, PLC controls, welding, and fabrication. Troubleshooting of components and systems is also a key responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on material handling systems with minimal supervision, demonstrating expertise in mechanical power transmission and electrical systems, alongside a working knowledge of PLC controls and welding techniques.
  • Promote a safe working environment by adhering to safety standards, participating in safety meetings, and addressing safety concerns proactively.
  • Interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, manufacturer manuals, and engineering specifications to diagnose and resolve system faults or escalate issues as necessary.
  • Respond to operational calls to identify problems and implement repairs effectively.
  • Utilize Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software for data entry and retrieval.
  • Exhibit advanced skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and PLC control failures.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians on complex control system issues.
  • Assist junior technicians as needed and contribute to the development of project scopes and plans for small-scale initiatives.
  • Be prepared to work flexible hours, including various shifts as required by business needs.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Mechanical Skills

  • Gain an understanding of power transmission concepts to effectively repair or replace gearboxes and motors.
  • Learn mechanical design principles to replace components without compromising system performance.
  • Develop skills in reading, interpreting, and modifying mechanical drawings.

Electrical Skills

  • Use digital multimeters for resistance testing on de-energized circuits.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose motor control circuits effectively.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Preferred qualifications include certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics or related fields, along with an associate degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of four years of experience in Industrial Maintenance, showcasing proficiency in mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, and PLC controls, as well as welding and fabrication skills.
  • Additional certifications and degrees may be evaluated for relevance to the position.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow detailed procedures as outlined by work orders or senior technicians.
  • Capability to interpret technical schematics and manuals for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Proficient in using EAM software for data management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with peers, management, and vendors.
  • Ability to work well within a team and manage time efficiently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Use of hand and power tools is required.
  • Work may be conducted in varying temperature conditions.
  • Physical activity may include standing, walking, bending, and squatting.
