Maintenance Supervisor, Electrical Systems
3 months ago
Objective
The Maintenance Supervisor for Balance of Plant (BOP) is a seasoned electrical professional, such as a certified lineman, high voltage specialist, or power systems engineer, within the Maintenance Engineering division. This role encompasses oversight, diagnostics, and implementation of maintenance tasks related to BOP components, including high, medium, and low voltage electrical systems and station power elements. The primary focus is on wind and solar facilities across the United States and Canada, with additional support for thermal, renewable natural gas, and hydroelectric facilities as required.
This position also involves standardizing scopes, preparing, executing maintenance tasks, and planning outages. Furthermore, it supports capital expenditure projects and assists in maintaining compliance with NERC regulations by reviewing commissioning documentation, preparing necessary evidence, and participating in audits as needed.
Additionally, this role is pivotal in the standardization of maintenance strategies and tools across the organization, utilizing the SAP framework for Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), inventory control, procurement, and related functions.
Key Responsibilities
Identify outage scopes for substations according to established standards, including contractor selection and review of test data and reports from outages. Coordinate outage planning with operations and field personnel regarding work and project execution. Develop and implement both short-term and long-term maintenance strategies for all high, medium, and low voltage equipment across the fleet. Analyze single point failures and recommend critical spare parts strategies for existing and new sites. Ensure that maintenance and project activities, whether conducted by internal or external resources, adhere to applicable processes, procedures, and standards. Assist in analyzing and interpreting maintenance-related data and metrics, preparing and presenting performance reports as necessary. Collaborate effectively with the Maintenance Engineering team while providing leadership and guidance to third-party vendors and service providers. Engage directly with operations staff, engineering subject matter experts, asset strategy teams, asset performance management, NERC compliance, and other internal and external stakeholders. Support maintenance planners, technicians, and quality assurance/control staff in addressing operational issues, reporting to the Senior Manager of Maintenance Engineering. Facilitate the implementation of SAP and other systems, such as condition-based monitoring and SCADA systems, to enhance data-driven decision-making in maintenance planning and execution. Possess comprehensive knowledge of IEEE, NERC, and NETA standards for maintenance testing of electrical power equipment and systems, particularly for BOP. Provide project planning services for BOP maintenance and quality initiatives, including defining scopes of work, estimating budgets, and scheduling projects for justification and approval. Adapt to changes in work assignments and priorities, undertaking additional tasks as assigned. Conduct all work with a focus on worker and public safety, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.Qualifications and Experience
Proven experience in substation and electrical maintenance. 8-10 years of electrical field experience, including high and medium voltage switching, with a focus on BOP, complemented by technical qualifications such as a technical diploma, licensed electrician status, or an electrical engineering degree. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving abilities. Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety protocols, as well as public safety and environmental regulations. Knowledge of IEEE, NERC, and NETA standards for maintenance testing specifications for electrical power equipment and systems, along with familiarity with quality assurance/control of project activities related to operations and maintenance. Understanding of substation and electrical power equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, protective relays, and grounding systems. Experience with root cause analysis and single point failure analysis for BOP equipment. Background in renewable energy generation, particularly in wind and solar sectors. High aptitude for technical learning and information assimilation, with the ability to develop expertise as needed and recognize when external resources should be engaged. Familiarity with operations and maintenance agreements and activities in the wind and solar energy sectors. Excellent communication skills for sharing best practices in electrical equipment maintenance and presenting information to senior leadership. Valid driver's license and the ability to rent vehicles on a corporate account. Willingness to travel within Canada and the United States as required, approximately 20% of the time.Company Overview
