Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Operational Risk Specialist to join our team at the Royal Bank of Canada. As an Operational Risk Specialist, you will play a critical role in identifying, designing, and implementing controls to mitigate operational risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze controls proposed by product, technical, and operational teams to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Design and implement controls to mitigate operational risk, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and RBC's risk management framework.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including 2LOD, Business Client Services, RBC Clear Operations, and product teams, to understand product, system landscape, operational rules, and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain control statements, including what, who, when, how, and why, and update them in RBC's control system ERIC.
  • Participate in Internal Control Monitoring (ICM) and risk assessments, including Integrated Risk Profile, Risk & Control Self-Assessment, and Harm Assessment.
  • Monitor RBC Clear operational processes to ensure controls are working effectively and assist with incident mitigation.
  • Support the oversight and challenge of 1LOD's execution of Internal Operational Risk Events and related Root Cause Analysis.
  • Record evidence of 2LOD oversight and challenge on the Operational Risk Management System (ORMS).
Requirements
  • 1-2 years of experience in operational risk management, including identifying, designing, and documenting controls.
  • Strong understanding of RBC's enterprise risk pyramid, risk pillars, and tools.
  • Ability to draw connections between risk requirements and operational policies and procedures, anticipating impediments and identifying mitigants.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and demonstrate a results-oriented mindset.
