Job Summary

The Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority seeks a highly skilled Auditor I to conduct audits of accounting and operating systems to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills to evaluate financial records and reports, identify areas for improvement, and provide recommendations to management.

As an Auditor I, you will work independently to plan and prepare audit programs and work papers, conduct fieldwork, and analyze data to determine compliance with management's established policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for preparing reports for management and making recommendations to improve operations and financial position of the company.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct audits of financial, accounting, and operating procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Review and analyze financial records and reports to identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations to management.
  • Plan and prepare audit programs and work papers to ensure effective and efficient audit processes.
  • Conduct fieldwork to gather data and evidence to support audit findings.
  • Prepare reports for management and make recommendations to improve operations and financial position of the company.
  • Evaluate data obtained to determine evidence of deficiencies in controls, duplication of effort, extravagance, fraud, or lack of compliance with management's established policies or procedures.
Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and auditing theory and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze financial records and reports to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare complex reports and work papers.
  • Ability to express clearly and concisely in oral and written communications.
Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, or a related field, with at least 21 credits in accounting, or a minimum of four (4) years of auditing and accounting experience.
