Position Overview
We are looking for Apprentice Welders for both Day and Night Shifts. This role reports directly to the Foreman and Lead Hand of the Structural Department and is crucial for delivering high-quality welding for the fabrication of Compressor Skids while adhering to timelines and quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will encompass:
- Interpreting blueprints and welding process specifications
- Adhering to all required welding procedures
- Setting up and operating welding machines and associated equipment
- Cutting and coping structural steel
- Fitting and welding skids and structural subassemblies
- Utilizing radiographs, hand torches, welding machines, and both power and hand tools
- Engaging in the Quality Control Program
- Following instructions from the Foreman/Lead Hand
- Communicating with the Foreman/Lead Hand regarding material or equipment issues
- Collaborating with colleagues to ensure efficient job progression
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area and equipment
- Participating in the Compass Safety Program, including accident investigations and site inspections
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and complying with Health & Safety policies
- Operating equipment safely and competently
- Assisting in various shop areas as directed by the Foreman/Lead Hand
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- All position CWB ticket, FCAW & SMAW certifications
- Fitting experience is a significant advantage
- Personal tools as specified in the Compass Tool List for Tradesmen
- Knowledge of Quality Control procedures: CWB
- Understanding of OH&S, rigging, sling, and crane operation protocols
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- A collaborative spirit with a keen attention to detail
- The physical capability to stand for extended periods, work at heights over 10 feet, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- The ability to thrive in a noisy, smoky, and dusty shop environment with fluctuating temperatures
