Job Summary

The Radiological Technologist, CT/General Procedures position at Fraser Health Authority is a critical role in our Medical Imaging department. As a skilled professional, you will be responsible for performing special procedure examinations in CT and radiographic procedures, adhering to departmental policies and procedures, and ensuring safe radiation protection practices.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct CT examinations in accordance with established procedures, including completing requisitions, positioning patients, and explaining clinical procedures.
  2. Monitor patients during procedures, responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergent situations, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.
  3. Operate computerized imaging equipment, label permanent records, and check technical results to ensure departmental standards are followed.
  4. Facilitate workflow by checking information on requisitions, regulating inpatient examination time, and arranging departmental and/or facility porters.
  5. Supervise departmental staff, prepare work and vacation schedules, and complete payroll records and in-service education programs.
  6. Participate in staffing, hiring, and discipline as appropriate, and make recommendations to the Site Coordinator or Modality Supervisor regarding departmental objectives, policies, and procedures.
  7. Perform quality control duties, including scheduling and performing equipment tests, recording results, and identifying malfunctioning equipment for repair.
  8. Participate in the departmental Continuous Quality Improvement program, using established monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks.
  9. Maintain designated work areas, checking and cleaning equipment, setting up examination trays, and receiving and stocking supplies.
  10. Demonstrate procedures and usage of equipment to staff, including medical residents, technologists, and students, and participate in orientation of new employees.
  11. Enter data into the Radiology and Hospital Information System as required, and respond to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding patient examinations and schedules.
  12. Determine workload measurements, compile workload statistical reports, and make recommendations to the Director on how services may be improved.
  13. Ensure the department meets Health and Safety rules, regulations, and practices, including Fire, Disaster, WHMIS, Smart Moves, and Infection Control.
  14. Participate in the development of proposals and specifications related to the purchase of major equipment and program enhancements for the department, and provide input as a member on hospital committees where Medical Imaging representation is required.
  15. Participate in approved research and special projects in collaboration with Supervisor and other health care professionals.
  16. Maintain equipment by monitoring its operation and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs as required.
  17. Ensure a safe and healthy workplace for patients/clients and staff through effective orientation, training, promotion, and monitoring of safe work practices, and enforcement of health and safety requirements.
Qualifications

Certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is required. Completion of an advanced specialty program in Computed Tomography and one year of recent, related experience, including supervisory experience and experience in radiology procedures, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, is also required.

Demonstrated knowledge of standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations is essential. Additionally, demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice related to designated modality, organization policies, procedures, and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment, is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of current General Radiography and CT theory and practices within a client/family-centered model of care, as well as demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with medical imaging equipment, are also essential.

Demonstrated ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals, communicate effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, and other health care staff, and deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues is required.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others, plan and establish workload priorities, and perform CT techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies is also required.

Demonstrated computer skills with current computer applications and physical ability to perform the duties of the position are essential.
