Job Title: Educational Assistant - Special Education

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. As an Educational Assistant - Special Education, you will work collaboratively with teachers and other Special Education staff to provide instructional support, physical needs support, and facilitate communication for students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide instructional support to students with special needs, including implementing strategies as directed by teachers and preparing program support materials.
  • Assist in supervision and maintain discipline in the classroom.
  • Contribute to the total care and well-being of students, including implementing all strategies as directed by teachers.
  • Prepare program support materials for supported students.
Requirements:
  • College diploma in Behaviour Science Technology, Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, or Social Service Worker, or a diploma in Early Childhood Education or Personal Support Worker Certificate combined with experience working with students with complex needs.
  • Two to three years of previous experience working with children/adolescents with learning or developmental disabilities in a formal environment.
  • Ability to function within an interdisciplinary team and take direction.
  • Proven ability to deal with confidential information in a discreet manner.
  • Knowledge of relevant Special Education resource tools.
  • Willingness to accept technical training as required.

Approaches all work done within ALCDSB as being part of a larger system that is interrelated with strategic plans. Understands that work done in one part of ALCDSB impacts a variety of groups inside and outside of the Board.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must provide a Criminal Background Check (CBC) with vulnerable sector screening current within six months of date of hire.
