Job Title: Cook

RhynoCare Staffing is seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team in a long-term care facility. As a Cook, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met with delicious and wholesome meals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menu plans.
  • Ensure meals are served at the appropriate temperature and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the serving of meals to residents, respecting their food preferences.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
  • Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet the nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
  • Assist the Food and Nutrition Manager in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering.
  • Monitor food inventory and communicate with the appropriate channels to coordinate ordering of supplies.
  • Ensure all Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements are met.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
  • Assist with special events and catering as required.
Requirements:
  • Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal.
  • Must have a Food Handler's Certificate and keep it up to date.
  • Experience in a Long-Term Care setting or with seniors is preferred, but institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience accepted.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care's Long-term care home COVID-19 immunization policy.
Skills:
  • Must have a sincere interest in people, the elderly in particular, and possess a genuine sensitivity to their needs.
  • Must be able to effectively handle the physical aspects of the position, including bending, standing, lifting, and working in various temperatures.
  • Able to multi-task and complete required routines within assigned schedules.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written in English).
