Position Overview:

The Intermediate Accountant role, reporting to the Accounting Manager, is ideal for a CPA student eager to advance their accounting career. This position is vital in supporting the company's financial operations, which includes maintaining precise financial records, aiding in financial reporting, and ensuring adherence to accounting standards. The successful candidate will possess a solid grasp of accounting principles, experience with general ledger functions, and the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Assist in preparing financial statements, investment portfolios, and various reports.
    • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reports.
  • General Ledger Management:
    • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
    • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
    • Conduct daily accounting tasks, including preparing and reviewing journal entries.
  • Internal Controls:
    • Help maintain and enhance internal controls to ensure financial information accuracy and reliability.
    • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Tax Compliance:
    • Assist in preparing tax filings and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
    • Support tax return preparation and coordinate with external tax advisors as needed.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Assist in mentoring junior staff, providing guidance and support.
    • Engage in special projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Currently enrolled as a CPA student with a minimum of three years of general accounting experience.
  • Proficient in financial software and possess intermediate Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with Canadian accounting principles and a willingness to deepen knowledge.
  • Understanding of financial instruments or the insurance sector is a plus.
  • Fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
