Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Community Engagement Specialist.
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a qualified individual with a Social Services Certificate or Welfare Aid to become part of our team as a Community Engagement Specialist.
In your role as a Community Engagement Specialist with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver a range of advocacy and liaison services to clients within a specific program who are managing health challenges, including those undergoing HIV treatment. Assess client eligibility for services, connect clients to suitable internal and external resources, and advocate on behalf of clients with various community and governmental organizations.Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Completion of secondary education, along with a Welfare Aid or Social Services Certificate from an accredited institution. One (1) to two (2) years of experience working with underserved populations facing complex health and/or psychosocial issues, or a comparable combination of education and experience. A valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes, as necessary.Skills & Competencies
Familiarity with community resources and services. Understanding of the challenges faced by clients initiating or receiving HIV antiviral therapy. Proficient knowledge of the social, emotional, and health-related issues affecting the client demographic. Familiarity with medical terminology. Ability to type at a speed of 5,000 keystrokes per hour. Proven ability to perform under pressure, work independently with minimal supervision, solve problems, take initiative, foresee potential issues, and take appropriate actions, organize and prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with the public and colleagues, handle interactions with tact and professionalism, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Competence in performing mathematical calculations with reasonable speed and accuracy. Exceptional customer service and communication abilities. Capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment. Proficiency in operating relevant equipment. Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.Additional Information
Work hours, including days off and work location, may be subject to change based on operational needs and the provisions of the Collective Agreement and applicable laws. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
