Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist

The Opportunity:

This role involves overseeing the management and upkeep of the HACCP System and associated programs within a food distribution environment. The individual will play a crucial role in supporting production facilities by administering and executing relevant business unit initiatives. The focus will be on identifying and implementing continuous enhancements within established Food Safety and Quality Assurance protocols.

A Day in the Life:
• As the HACCP Specialist, you will lead the implementation and auditing of HACCP system updates, ensuring maintenance and reassessment activities are effectively carried out. Continuous improvement opportunities within existing programs will be identified and reported to senior management.

• You will develop, implement, and audit warehouse programs and standard operating procedures (SOPs & HACCP procedures) to ensure compliance with all regulatory and business standards.

• Responsibilities include inspecting, determining, and documenting the final disposition of damaged and returned products.

• Conduct internal audits and assist with external audits, leading sessions as assigned and serving as the Food Defense Team Leader.

• Administer the cold chain tracking program, monitoring temperatures of trailers in transit and at primary internal and external warehouses.

• Inspect co-manufactured products as scheduled and track, trend, and report findings to stakeholders.

• Report results of investigations related to the disposition of suspect products, including returns, refusals, potential temperature abuse, and damaged goods.

• Act as an onsite resource to investigate and resolve discrepancies between management systems and respond to concerns from production facilities.

• Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with warehouse management and offsite quality assurance teams.

• Oversee daily verification and data uploads related to outbound operations, including monitoring pallet control and leading annual audits.

What You'll Bring:


• A post-secondary degree in Food Safety, Food Science, or a related field.

• 3-5 years of experience in a food-related Quality Assurance role, preferably in the meat industry, with HACCP Specialist experience being a significant advantage.

• Strong leadership and communication skills.

• Excellent organizational, multitasking, and prioritization abilities.

• Innovative problem-solving skills to identify opportunities and solutions.

• Detail-oriented with a strong sense of urgency and results focus.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

• Willingness to provide QA support across all shifts, including weekends, as necessary.

• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
