Job Title: Secondary Educational Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Secondary Educational Assistant to join our team at the York Region District School Board. As an Educational Assistant, you will provide instructional and behavioral support to students, working under the direction of the teacher to help students acquire the education and skills necessary for advancement in the educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to students, including assisting with lesson plans and activities
  • Assist with student behavior management, including de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher to communicate and report on student progress
  • Assist with classroom and resource preparation, including setting up materials and equipment
  • Supervise students during activities and transitions

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a related field an asset
  • Minimum one year of experience working with students with special needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use educational software
