About the Role

The Dexterra Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Operator to join our team. As a key member of our Building Operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining and operating mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring the safe and compliant operation of our facilities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain mechanical equipment, including heat pumps, boilers, air handlers, and pumps, to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, such as minor plumbing, light replacement, and ballast replacement.
  • Conduct preventative and regular maintenance as outlined by our maintenance schedule.
  • Oversee third-party contractors for the safe and compliant operation and maintenance of our facilities.
  • Regulate equipment and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work with our Quality Management system to ensure adherence to industry standards.
  • Participate in educational programs and in-service trainings to stay up-to-date with industry developments.
  • Attend meetings as required and contribute to the development of our Building Operations team.
  • Be on call according to a published schedule and work weekends and overtime as required.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a professional manner and close work orders within the specified time frame.
  • Communicate work status with client groups via our central call center within the specified time frame.
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety acts and other legislative enactments.
  • Respond to fire alarms as part of our fire response team.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned by our supervisor or manager.
  • Prepare quotation letters for chargeable services provided by our property management team and prepare a monthly report detailing tenant services charges for work performed.

Requirements

  • Must have initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Positive outlook, good communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Certificate of Building Environmental Systems - Operator Class One & Two or SMT or Stationary Engineer 4th/5th Class or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in general maintenance in a commercial, laboratory equipment, or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical blueprints.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS), and First Aid and CPR training.
  • Knowledge of Provincial Building Code & Regulations, Canadian Electrical Code, Provincial Fire Code, and Electrical Safety Authority.
  • Computer literate. Knowledge of CMMS is an asset.
