Reporting To: School Administrators

Employment Type: Casual - Shifts may vary from 30 to 50 minutes, with compensation for 1 hour of work per shift.

Hourly Compensation: $18.89

Language Requirement: English

Role Overview

Under the supervision of the School Administrator(s), the Child Safety Walking Supervisor collaborates with a team to escort a group of children from designated pick-up points to the school premises in the morning and returns them to the specified locations after school. The supervisor adheres to a predetermined and secure route with set "stops" and "pick-up times".

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collecting a group of students and safely escorting them to their assigned school each day under the guidance of the Administrator(s).
  • Ensuring close supervision of students, facilitating their safe journey along public routes to school.
  • Overseeing the safe conduct of students participating in the walking program.
  • Maintaining accountability for the students' whereabouts at all times during transit and ensuring their safe handover to the school.
  • Demonstrating safe walking practices, pedestrian behavior, and street safety.
  • Exercising sound judgment and monitoring traffic conditions to identify safe opportunities for street crossings.
  • Staying focused and minimizing distractions while leading students to school.
  • Communicating traffic rules and safety practices to students involved in the walking program.
  • Reporting any concerns or issues to the Administrator(s).
  • Complying with all safety protocols and wearing required safety gear, including a safety vest, at all times.
  • Adhering to the policies and procedures of the Division to ensure the safety of all students in the walking program.
  • Treating all student information as confidential.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the walking program.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Clear communication skills with students and others, along with proficient English language abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Good physical condition, including adequate sight, hearing, and mobility.

Desired Skills:

  • Basic First Aid training.

  • The position requires working in various weather conditions throughout the year.
