We are seeking a highly experienced Employment Lawyer/Litigator to join our team at Caravel Law. As a key member of our team, you will provide expert legal counsel to our clients on a broad range of employment-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on employment law matters, including hiring, employee compensation and benefits, discipline, terminations, severance packages, and risk management.
  • Draft employment contracts, termination letters, employment policies, and other employment-related documents.
  • Ensure clients' businesses are compliant with employment laws and regulations.
  • Represent clients at the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
  • Manage labour relations issues, including certification applications, unfair labour practices, collective agreement negotiations, and grievance resolution.
  • Manage wrongful dismissal actions through all stages of litigation.
  • Prepare for and conduct labour board hearings.
  • Represent clients before government commissions and tribunals to resolve human rights complaints.
  • Represent clients before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
  • Draft legal opinions, motion materials, pleadings, and written submissions.
  • Represent clients at pre-trial conferences, private and mandatory mediations.
  • Conduct examinations for discovery in complex, multi-party matters.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years' experience as an Employment Lawyer in private practice or in-house.
  • Experience dealing with employment law issues across Canada.
  • Corporate Law experience/knowledge.
  • Called to the bar in Ontario.
  • Ability to work in French, while not critical, would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Immigration Law is an asset.
