Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Service Engineering Specialist to join our team at New Flyer. As a key member of our service engineering team, you will be responsible for determining root cause and corrective action for issues affecting our products in service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commissioning and Troubleshooting: Lead the execution of commissioning activities, both onsite and/or remote, and troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and firmware issues that arise during commissioning.
  • Service Bulletin and Instructions: Create and evaluate service bulletins and service instructions by working cross-functionally with subject matter experts and suppliers.
  • Incident Resolution: Initiate the transition of road incidents in field service action reports and task them to the FSAR engineering team to release test programs.
  • Product Investigation: Investigate and resolve product issues of varying complexity by collaborating with vendors and engineering teams to implement recommended solutions.
  • Diagnostic Tool Development: Provide support in the development of diagnostic tools in the field to enable efficient serviceability.
  • Issue Resolution: Provide guidance and propose actionable steps to resolve issues raised by field staff or directly by customers, ensuring adherence to timelines.
  • Preventative Measures: Support cross-functional efforts to prevent the reoccurrence of known issues in the field.
  • Product Improvement: Assess and quantify the benefits of product improvement opportunities and work with designers to implement improvements for existing and future products as appropriate.
  • Communication: Communicate the root cause and resolution of technical issues effectively to internal and utility customers as required.
  • Technical Publications: Supply technical publications with updated information for manuals and suggestions on how to improve the information in our manuals.
  • Testing and Validation: Assist with controlled testing of components and installations to meet contractual obligations, ensure product reliability, and verify component fit.
Requirements
  • Education: Registered (or eligible to be registered) as an Engineer in Training, Professional Engineer, or Certified Engineering Technologist – Electrical.
  • Experience: 1-2 years' experience with troubleshooting electrical/electronic, software/firmware, or process failure modes preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, ability to prioritize and execute many tasks in parallel, excellent attention to detail, and ability to produce clear and concise written documents.
  • Software: Proficient with MS Office.
