Your Opportunity:
This Unit Clerk role is situated within the Emergency department. Operating under minimal supervision, this position is pivotal in managing care pathways for patients and their families while executing clerical and receptionist responsibilities. Duties may encompass patient registration, scheduling and coordinating diagnostic examinations, liaising with consultation services, arranging transportation, and fulfilling various other tasks as required. This role may also involve handling short-notice replacement calls, adhering to criteria established by management. Additionally, the Unit Clerk is accountable for monitoring and procuring supplies and stationery.
The Unit Clerk plays a crucial role in enhancing communication among nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, departments, community partners, patients, and their families, while ensuring the confidentiality of patient information is upheld. This position is vital for the seamless and effective operation of the Emergency department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate efficient communication between healthcare professionals, departments, patients, and families.
- Perform a variety of administrative tasks, including reception duties, greeting and directing visitors, and maintaining patient records.
- Transcribe and process physician orders, as well as schedule patient tests and treatments.
- Support the unit through various administrative activities.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Successful completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or a comparable training program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a rural hospital setting, emergency room, acute care, or familiarity with Connect Care systems.
