Position: Lead Specialist in Infection Control and Prevention
Southbridge Care Homes is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and motivated Lead Specialist in Infection Control and Prevention to enhance the well-being of our residents, ensuring their safety and health.
In this pivotal role, reporting to the Regional IPAC Specialist, you will be recognized as a resident safety authority, responsible for the strategic planning, development, execution, coordination, and assessment of comprehensive infection prevention initiatives. You will embody the principles of the IPAC program, aligning with the overarching vision and mission of Southbridge. Your expertise will facilitate transformative changes through the interpretation and application of established standards, ultimately aiming to enhance resident outcomes and avert disease outbreaks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and implement infection prevention and control protocols within the facility;
- Contribute to the design of an infection surveillance program and spearhead outbreak management in collaboration with local health authorities;
- Conduct daily infection surveillance and compile monthly reports on findings;
- Provide education to staff on infection prevention principles and serve as a resource for best practices;
- Ensure all residents are up-to-date with vaccinations and that the facility adheres to infection control regulations;
- Design, deliver, and implement training programs for both new and existing staff, in line with legislative and healthcare standards;
- Regularly assess training initiatives to ensure they meet the needs of the facility;
- Identify and report safety risks, conduct routine safety inspections, and promote safe working practices;
- Offer expert advice on facility design, maintenance, and construction projects;
- Lead the implementation of changes required by regulatory and licensing bodies;
- Monitor staff adherence to infection prevention protocols regarding sharps disposal, personal protective equipment, and hand hygiene, providing reports to the Infection Prevention Committees;
- Analyze infection trends and risk factors, evaluating prevention and control measures;
- Conduct program assessments and recommend improvements;
- Direct the annual influenza vaccination initiative;
- Coordinate outbreak response efforts with local health authorities;
- Engage in research and analyze evidence-based literature to develop IPAC best practices, guidelines, tools, and resources.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in a health-related discipline.
- Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in infection control.
- Experience in long-term care settings and familiarity with applicable legislation is advantageous.
- Proficiency in resident care practices, microbiology, infectious diseases, epidemiology, and outbreak response.
