Detailed Job DescriptionWTW – Risk & Broking (R&B) North America is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Senior Construction Broker in our Toronto office. The ideal applicant will possess significant experience in Builder's Risk and Wrap Up Liability placements, along with a solid understanding of operational insurance program renewals tailored for the construction sector. Familiarity with additional construction-related coverages is advantageous. This role offers a national scope, collaborating with all four Canadian offices and contributing to the leading construction team in North America.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee brokerage duties for client renewals within the construction sector and manage project-specific construction placements.
- Deliver expert leadership and guidance for broking activities, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
- Assess various solutions to develop optimal risk management strategies for clients.
- Formulate and implement broking strategies and conduct market negotiations.
- Review underwriting documents, including insurance recommendations, to ensure comprehensive submissions that align with strategic goals.
- Analyze client-specific risk exposures and coverage needs; prepare and present marketing proposals for renewals and new business opportunities.
- Create and provide analytical materials for clients, evaluating risks to facilitate effective market placements.
- Supervise the preparation of draft proposals; negotiate and finalize quotes, terms, conditions, and coverage confirmations to ensure clarity in contracts.
- Bind quotes from carriers, review policy documents, and confirm accurate coverage details.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with market stakeholders to secure favorable terms for clients.
- Engage with key stakeholders including clients, carriers, WTW team members, and third-party vendors.
- Collaborate closely with associates from other departments that support the broking process, such as analytics and claims.
Qualifications:
- Licenses as mandated by provincial regulations.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction broking.
- Proven technical expertise in insurance, including the ability to apply knowledge of coverage forms for program design, identify coverage gaps, and provide ongoing consultation.
- Ability to manage large, complex renewals and construction projects from start to finish.
- Adaptability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with the capability to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Strong negotiation and influence skills are essential.
- Meticulous attention to detail and refined organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal, with the capacity to engage in complex discussions at the executive level.
- Leadership qualities: ability to make informed decisions and support them; capability to manage one's own work; willingness to seek guidance and coordinate with others when necessary.
