Main Purpose & Function

This Maintenance Technician I position is responsible for maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing physical plant equipment and related systems used in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning of our facilities.

The successful candidate will be required to work evenings and weekends on various shifts as operationally required, with shift differential applying when applicable.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect components, check gauges, and monitor fluid levels.
  • Maintain, repair, and/or replace filters, pulleys, and belts.
  • Replace gaskets, pumps, and bearings.
  • Refit and pack valves.
  • Test and add chemicals to systems.
  • Oil, grease, and clean components.
  • Conduct operational tests to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Make set point adjustments to physical plant equipment and related systems.
  • Assist with pool start-up and seasonal operations.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of courses in the technical specialty and considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Fourth Class Power Engineer Certificate or equivalent/higher is required.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain Pool Operator I & II.
  • Class C Gas Fitters License for the Province of B.C is desirable.
  • Sound related experience in the maintenance of HVAC equipment and of Worksafe BC indoor air quality regulations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of building system components and related installations.
  • Working knowledge of building systems and the provincial regulations governing operations.
  • Ability to operate and adjust equipment and automated control systems (DDC) such as Delta and Reliable controls, make complex repairs, and replace components.
  • Ability to develop work plans, adapt work methods, and estimate materials.
  • Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports.
  • Skill in the care and use of tools and testing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software is preferred.
  • Good sound judgment and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Driver License and Record Checks.
  • A current and valid BC Driver's License and a Satisfactory driving record.
  • A Police Record Check is a requirement of this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
