Role SummaryThe Laboratory Technician in Biology plays a crucial role in facilitating the effective operation of the Biology laboratory. This position involves providing essential technical and logistical support, ensuring that all laboratory activities align with the curriculum set forth by the Biology faculty.
Key Responsibilities- Material Preparation: Research, select, and prepare a diverse range of materials and displays for laboratory use.
- Assistance and Supervision: Support Lab Facilitators in their preparation tasks for advanced courses and supervise student assistants, providing necessary training and orientation.
- Culture Maintenance: Maintain and prepare living cultures and accurately manage various strains of Drosophila.
- Equipment Management: Ensure all laboratory equipment is functioning properly, performing minor repairs as needed, and maintaining compliance with safety regulations.
- Inventory Control: Manage the inventory of chemicals and supplies, including the preparation of chemical waste for safe disposal.
- Technical Support: Assist in testing experiments for laboratory manuals and support lab examination processes.
- Resource Management: Maintain essential resource materials such as books and catalogues.
- Animal Care: Oversee the care of laboratory animals as required.
- Safety Compliance: Be trained in Biosafety protocols for safe operations within the laboratory environment.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
- Strong understanding of laboratory equipment and course content.
- In-depth knowledge of safety practices in a biology laboratory setting.
- Excellent communication skills, demonstrating courtesy and effectiveness.
- Ability to exhibit proper laboratory techniques and maintain confidentiality.
