About Our Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Enforcement Officer to join our Compliance and Enforcement team. As an Enforcement Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with and enforcement of the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act, General Regulations, and trade-specific regulations within all workplaces in an assigned territory.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Conducting scheduled and unscheduled workplace inspections to ensure compliance with regulations;
  • Investigating complaints and non-compliance, preparing and submitting written reports to the Supervisor;
  • Providing compliance promotion sessions in workplaces, schools, and the community;
  • Providing information and advice to employers, contractors, employees, unions, and the general public;
  • Ensuring compliance by issuing orders, Summary Offense Tickets, Administrative Penalties, and initiating prosecution action when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have a Grade 12 education plus completion of a related trade or technical training, and six years of related experience in business, compliance monitoring, inspection, investigation, interpreting regulations, or other regulatory roles. The ability to exercise professional discretion, manage competing interests, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships is critical. As a Special Constable, you will be eligible to issue Summary Offense Tickets for alleged non-compliance to a regulation or piece of legislation.
