Registered Dental Hygienist Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Dental Hygienist to join our team at the City of Toronto. As a key member of our public health team, you will play a vital role in promoting oral health and preventing dental disease in our community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide clinical dental preventive services, including topical fluoride application, sealant placement, scaling, polishing, and individual oral hygiene instruction to clients of all ages.
- Conduct dental screenings, maintain accurate records, and take, mount, and screen x-rays as required.
- Assess clients' individual dental needs and assign them to specific services, advising dentists of any complications encountered.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and procedures, as per IPAC and TPH guidelines.
- Complete documentation for all services provided, including follow-up care for children requiring urgent attention, consent to treatment documentation, and maintenance of defect lists and enrollment of eligible children.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and teachers to obtain and confirm patient information.
- Develop and deliver dental health education programs for classrooms, daycare centers, geriatric institutions, and community groups, including those with special needs.
- Mentor dental hygiene students and conduct oral assessments in schools and community dental clinics, making referrals as necessary.
- Facilitate groups and distribute educational materials, including the preparation of articles and pamphlets for community information.
- Conduct annual screening and dental surveys of assigned populations.
- Licensed as a Registered Dental Hygienist by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, with a completed Diploma in Dental Hygiene.
- Considerable experience as a Dental Hygienist in a dental practice, with a strong background in public health.
- Experience working with children and seniors, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to give direction and instruction to dental assistants and dental hygiene students, with a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and the general public, with a strong focus on customer service.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
