Position Overview

The Field Specialist for Tunnels and Portals plays a critical role in supervising the construction of key infrastructure components, including the Exhibition Portal, South Civil tunnels, Emergency Service Buildings (ESBs), and Emergency Exit Buildings (EEBs). This position is vital as the project involves the construction of twin-bored tunnels extending 7km beneath a major urban area, interfacing with various stakeholders and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising the contractor's activities related to the tunnels and portal, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Maintaining comprehensive daily logs of site activities, including personnel, materials, equipment, and work progress.
  • Evaluating contractor submissions and deliverables to ensure they meet project specifications.
  • Identifying and addressing non-conformances, particularly in relation to Inspection and Test Plans (IPTs).
  • Ensuring that all construction activities align with contractual obligations regarding health, safety, environmental standards, and quality metrics.
  • Reporting on project progress, highlighting risks, and escalating issues to the Project Manager as necessary.
  • Collaborating with discipline leads to leverage expertise in health & safety, environmental management, and quality assurance.
  • Fostering strong relationships with the contractor's site team to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Validating contractor progress reports against personal observations and records.
  • Contributing to progress reports for all project components, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) combined with 8-10 years of relevant experience, or 12-14 years of applicable work experience.
  • Experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in urban rail environments.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in construction supervision for infrastructure projects of similar complexity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Commitment to environmental, safety, and health standards.
  • Dedication to a Zero Accident safety culture.
