As a pivotal leader in Human Resources, you will oversee Human Capital strategies encompassing organizational structure, employee engagement, development, recruitment, retention, performance management, employee assistance, labor relations, job assessment, benefits management, training, regulatory compliance, and special initiatives.
You will act as a strategic ally to the Plant leadership team, aiding in the formulation and execution of policies and procedures, ensuring effective communication through individual or group meetings. Your responsibilities will include planning, organizing, directing, and managing plant HR programs, while building and guiding a local HR and Labor Relations team to support GM's business and continuous improvement goals, along with community engagement activities as necessary.
This position involves complex issues requiring significant initiative and a high degree of independent judgment in decision-making. You will report directly to the Regional Manufacturing Human Resource Director.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead a team of six HR/LR Partners.
- Develop and implement local negotiation strategies, managing the execution of both local and national labor agreements.
- Oversee the application of plant policies and provide guidance on disciplinary actions for represented employees.
- Manage the local grievance process.
- Act as a safety ambassador, promoting the safety vision and supporting the Workplace Safety System (WSS).
- Ensure effective management and development of team members, adhering to legal and policy compliance.
- Plan and implement Talent Management and Succession Planning reviews.
- Administer compensation planning and related programs to uphold a pay-for-performance culture.
- Oversee the performance review process for salaried employees and related policies.
- Champion initiatives within the People aspect of the Business Plan Deployment (BPD) process, providing strategic oversight for the plant.
- Support the Global Manufacturing System (GMS) and People Involvement (PI) initiatives through coaching and auditing.
- Drive strategies for diversity and inclusion.
- Conduct training sessions on Ethics, Policy, Safety, Leadership, and Labor Relations as needed.
- Collaborate with manufacturing operations leadership on engagement and inclusion strategies using Workplace of Choice (WOC) data.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection process for new hires.
- Maintain productive relationships with Management, Union Representatives, and other stakeholders.
- Advise management on HR/LR matters.
- Stay informed on government legislation related to HR/LR and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Guide employees in resolving issues related to benefits and company policies.
- Work with plant leadership to create initiatives aimed at enhancing employee engagement.
- Collaborate with functional partners to provide Health/Medical and Security services.
- Facilitate Health and Wellness activities internally and externally.
- Represent GM in various legal matters as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Engage in project work focused on enhancing Impact, Accountability, Performance, and Efficiency.
A Bachelor's degree and/or over 10 years of relevant experience in Human Resources/Labor Relations.
At least 3 years of experience in a Manufacturing Plant setting.
A minimum of 4 years in a leadership or management role.
5+ years of Labor Relations experience, including contract management, negotiations, and grievance resolution in complex environments.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Workday HRIS.
Ability to educate and develop the organization in relevant areas.
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources/Labor Relations, or a related field.
Experience supporting large manufacturing sites with over 2,000 employees.
Proven experience in leading change initiatives.
Experience in fast-paced environments.
Ability to manage multi-disciplinary HR and LR responsibilities; Generalist role with extensive labor expertise, business acumen, strong leadership, influencing skills, effective problem-solving, decision-making, collaboration, strategic thinking, data analytics, and self-direction.
