Job Summary

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Survey Assistant to join our Engineering Services team. As a Survey Assistant, you will assist in conducting various survey assignments, including field and office-related duties, to support the City's infrastructure development and maintenance projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the surveying of streets, lanes, parks, and other features, including operating and maintaining survey equipment, carrying out physical work, and providing traffic control.
  • Conduct field investigations, data editing, and input, basic drafting using civil engineering design and documentation software, and filing.
  • Perform office-related duties, such as data editing and input, basic drafting, and filing.
  • Collaborate with survey technicians to complete survey assignments efficiently and safely.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.

Requirements

  • Completion of grade twelve supplemented by survey theory coursework and some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Diploma of Technology in civil engineering or geomatics is preferred.
  • Valid class 5 BC Driver's License.
  • Ability to complete the City of Vancouver Traffic Management training course.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of survey methods and techniques.
  • Skill in the use and care of surveying tools, including total stations and levels.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately, neatly, and rapidly.
  • Ability to work safely in all traffic conditions and on construction sites.
