Indigenous Inmate Support Coordinator

Grand Council Treaty #3 Kaakewaaseya Justice Services is seeking a committed professional to take on the role of Indigenous Inmate Support Coordinator.
The Support Coordinator will be tasked with managing assistance services and promoting the welfare of individuals within correctional facilities. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, resource organization, and the execution of programs aimed at improving the living conditions for inmates.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, implement, and oversee Indigenous Programs and activities on a regular basis
- Conduct interviews with Indigenous inmates upon their entry to inform them about the available support services
- Serve as a consultant for the Parole Board regarding Indigenous programming, cultural, and spiritual matters
- Support inmates in formulating Temporary Absence plans
- Facilitate communication among inmates, their families, staff, and external agencies
- Develop transition plans for Indigenous inmates
- Compile and present reports and statistics to the correctional institution
The ideal candidate for the Indigenous Inmate Support Coordinator position should possess experience in social services, mental health, legal affairs, or related disciplines. Familiarity with Indigenous issues and the justice system is advantageous. Additional qualifications include:
- Comprehensive understanding of local Indigenous cultures, histories, practices, and traditions
- Awareness of Indigenous support services in the surrounding area
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in relevant software applications and technology
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
