Emergency Psychiatric Liaison Nurse Specialist

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join our team as an Emergency Psychiatric Liaison Nurse. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing high-quality care to patients in need.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and provide direct psychiatric nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department, identifying preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative aspects of care.
- Develop and modify individualized care plans in consultation with the interprofessional team and family members, with clear attention to treatment and risk management priorities.
- Perform psychosocial assessments and collect collateral information related to patients' primary support group, social environment, occupation, education, housing, finance, health service access, and legal problems.
- Collaborate and consult with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers in the hospital and community, and assist in adapting care plans to address psychiatric needs.
- Provide consultation and education to patients, their families, and/or caregivers with respect to illness prevention, health maintenance, and health promotion strategies.
- Participate in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students by providing information and acting as a preceptor or mentor as appropriate.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population, specialty training in adolescent psychiatry, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental health assessment, psychopharmacology, concurrent disorders, and DSM-V multiaxial diagnoses.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies, suicide risk assessment, violence management protocols, general counselling and interview techniques, and individual and group dynamics.
