Opportunity Overview:

Aecon Nuclear has secured a pivotal contract with Ontario Power Generation, focusing on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). This role will be integral to the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation, and mobilization for the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting directly to the Survey Assembly Manager, the selected candidate will oversee survey integration and ensure successful execution across all project bundles. This includes directing the Industrial Survey operations and personnel within the Nuclear and Conventional Islands, which encompasses the Reactor Building and Turbine Hall construction scope, including containment, equipment, and Reactor Pressure Vessel interface with other areas. During the validation phase, the Superintendent will contribute to construction planning and reviews. In the execution phase, responsibilities will include supervising, coordinating, and scheduling survey and inspection activities across multiple scopes of work, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and budget estimates while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead survey planning and execution for the Nuclear and Conventional Island, managing methods of survey and inspection, manpower, materials, tools, equipment, rentals, and work schedules.
  • Develop and oversee project Control and Measurement Plans for high-precision industrial mechanical and equipment layout, laser scanning, and metrology inspection activities, identifying risks and issues across all bundles.
  • Coordinate control and resources among project bundles to prioritize survey support for construction schedules.
  • Provide input and approve safety plans and procedures for survey and inspection tasks as necessary.
  • Implement and enforce safety, quality, and human performance programs.
  • Ensure adherence to Aecon policies and project procedures by survey personnel.
  • Manage productivity of direct hire trade labor and subcontractors, ensuring efficient use of materials and tools while meeting contractual performance standards.
  • Understand and support applicable trade agreements.
  • Apply company discipline policies and escalate performance concerns to the Survey Assembly Manager as needed.
  • Ensure survey personnel complete all required training in safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation, and owner-specified requirements.
  • Review and assist in the creation of survey quality, progress, or as-built documentation.
  • Ensure project survey compliance with drawings, specifications, tolerances, and project schedules and budgets.
  • Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, and other contractors.
  • Ensure project construction aligns with QA Programs and project quality plans.
  • Conduct regular field tours to monitor survey progress and engage with project site personnel.
  • Perform site safety inspections.
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.
  • Review and approve timesheets, expense reports, vacation requests, and training requests within Limits of Authority.
  • Manage performance of all direct-report employees, including coaching, mentoring, career planning, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Ensure all project staff and direct reports understand and comply with applicable code of conduct policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 15 years of experience in Industrial Survey Supervision and planning.
  • Nuclear construction experience is a valuable asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Industrial Survey aspects, including High Precision Plant Control networks adjustment and proficiency with High Precision Instruments such as Total Stations, Laser Scanners, and Trackers.
  • Proven experience in leading Industrial survey teams in delivering quality and project controls.
  • Understanding of the importance of supporting a positive Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Experience managing major complex Nuclear or Industrial projects.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans, isometrics, and specifications.
  • Strong appreciation for Quality Assurance Programs and their significance in the nuclear sector.
