Position: Summer Intern, Corporate Banking – Montréal, QC
Department: Global Banking and Markets

GBM provides a comprehensive suite of investment banking, credit, and risk management solutions tailored to meet the financing and strategic development requirements of our clientele. Our offerings encompass debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious metals. Additionally, we facilitate the cross-selling of the entire range of wholesale products and services available through the Scotiabank Group.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in daily account management tasks.
- Structure, analyze, and conduct due diligence on transactions of varying complexities.
- Support the management of the loan portfolio, including conducting quarterly and annual credit reviews, coordinating account management with team members and Global Risk Management, and facilitating amendments and structuring of credit facilities.
- Evaluate credit needs of existing and potential clients; aid in preparing client marketing pitches and other presentations.
- Ensure credit files, agreements, and security documents are thorough and current.
- Monitor and adhere to client compliance reporting obligations.
- Formulate recommendations for appropriate actions.
- Research credit and banking product requirements for existing and prospective clients.
- Collaborate with various product groups within GBM.
- Enhance industry and product knowledge by fostering relationships with clients, other lenders, legal advisors, and internal product specialists.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a BComm/MBA/CFA designation.
- Experience in Corporate Banking or relevant financial sectors is advantageous.
- Proficient in both written and spoken French and English.
- Self-driven, results-oriented, and a collaborative team player with a strong capacity for learning.
- Exhibit a high level of professionalism in all client interactions.
- Possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with clear rationale supporting recommendations and actions.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and a sense of urgency appropriate to the context.
- Exhibit strong time management skills and a commitment to achieving deadlines and objectives.
- Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and professional relationships internally.
- Possess financial modeling skills and a solid understanding of accounting principles.
- Strong organizational and computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Work Arrangement:
This role currently operates in a hybrid format, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days per week in the office. This arrangement may evolve based on business needs.
