Zoological Technologist

**About the Role:**

Vancouver Aquarium Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Zoological Technologist to join our team in the conservation and education of marine life. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting biological tests and laboratory analyses, analyzing data, and preparing reports.

**Key Responsibilities:**

• **Conduct Biological Tests and Laboratory Analyses:** Assist in conducting biological tests and laboratory analyses to support the conservation and education of marine life.
• **Data Analysis and Reporting:** Analyze data and prepare reports to support the conservation and education of marine life.
• **Environmental Monitoring and Compliance:** Conduct environmental monitoring and compliance activities to protect wildlife and other natural resources.
• **Animal Care and Handling:** Handle, restrain, and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery.
• **Display and Exhibition Development:** Develop storyline and theme of displays and exhibitions to support the conservation and education of marine life.
• **Facility Maintenance:** Clean and disinfect cages, pens, aquariums, kennels, runs, stalls, and enclosures.

**Supervisory Responsibilities:**

• **Supervise Animal Health Technologists and Animal Care Workers:** Supervise animal health technologists and animal care workers to ensure the highest level of animal care and welfare.
• **Personnel Selection and Development:** Assist in the selection, evaluation, and professional development of personnel to support the conservation and education of marine life.
• **Standards and Health and Safety:** Assist in the development of standards and health and safety measures to support the conservation and education of marine life.
• **Computerized Document Management:** Ensure that proper procedures are followed in the use of computerized document management systems.

**Requirements:**

• **Education:** Other trades certificate or diploma or equivalent experience.
• **Experience:** 5 years or more in animal care and field studies work.
• **Technical Experience:** Animal care and field studies work, Fresh water ecosystem, Marine ecosystem, Plant breeding.
• **Area of Work Experience:** Basic research, Data analysis and interpretation, Education or teaching, Government regulations control.
• **Area of Specialization:** Biology, Zoology, Aquaculture, Marine biology, Exotic animals.
• **Animal Specialization:** Tropical fish, Small wild animals (zoo), Reptiles.
