About this Opportunity

The Panel/Relief Operator plays a critical role in supporting the Operations team by running control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. This position involves supervising and adjusting processes to optimize performance, addressing operational issues as they arise, and ensuring that safety protocols are followed.

This role requires strong leadership skills, with the ability to take direction from the Coordinator/Shift Engineer to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the unit. The operator works closely with the team to maintain smooth plant operations, supports the implementation of procedures, and assists in coordinating maintenance activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SAGD Thermal Heavy Oil Operations and be able to advise day-to-day operations from the Control Room Panel. A Third Class Power Engineering certificate is preferred, but not required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handles operational upsets optimally by applying DCS trends to ensure that control of the process is being maintained and optimized.
  • Assists the Coordinator/Shift Engineer in reaching key operational targets and provides input to LOTO development.
  • Collaborates in safety meetings, updates crews on safety topics and concerns, and ensures that all plant activities for assigned areas operate safely.
  • Conducts Handover Meetings with outgoing Panel/Relief Operators, completes and reviews e-Log entries, and provides training, guidance, and mentorship to other team members as required.
  • Supervises critical metrics for the facility, performs troubleshooting, and adjusts processes as needed.
Requirements
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Preference for an operator holding a Third Class Power Engineering certificate.
  • 5+ years of SAGD Thermal Heavy Oil Operations experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to take direction from the Coordinator/Shift Engineer.
  • Ability to advise day-to-day operations from the Control Room Panel.
