Position Overview:
As a Culinary Service Associate, you will play a vital role in enhancing the dining experience for patients and residents within the healthcare environment. This position is part of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team, which is dedicated to delivering nutritious and high-quality meal services to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the broader community.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of essential tasks, including but not limited to:
- Preparing, handling, and portioning food and beverages according to established guidelines.
- Assembling meal trays in the kitchen area.
- Delivering and retrieving patient meals efficiently.
- Operating and maintaining industrial food service equipment safely.
- Following safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards as per organizational policies.
- Completing additional food service duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
- Capacity to work effectively under pressure in high-stress situations.
- Proficient communication skills in English, enabling effective interaction with patients, colleagues, and other departments.
- Strong teamwork abilities, contributing positively as a professional team member.
- A commitment to a patient-first approach as emphasized in the organizational strategies.
- Basic mathematical skills for measuring food portions accurately.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed Grade 10 or an equivalent level of education. Additionally, the role requires physical capability to lift food, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 46 lbs, as well as the ability to push or pull meal carts weighing up to 250 lbs. The position necessitates standing and walking for the duration of the shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are advantageous:
- A minimum of three years of experience in customer service or food service roles.
- Previous experience in a hospital or continuing care setting.
- Familiarity with inventory management, including receiving deliveries and managing expiration dates.
- Experience with industrial food service equipment.
- A Food Safe Certificate or equivalent certification.
- WHMIS training.
